Reinhard is a San Francisco Bay Area native born and raised in the East Bay. He graduated from Santa Clara University in 2007 with a bachelor of science in Political Science. Following graduation he moved to New York City where he accepted a job with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York working directly with immigration attorneys conducting research, consulting clients, and assisting in the management of legal cases of newly arrived refugees and immigrants.
In 2009 he was accepted into and attended the Arthur L. Carter Journalism institute at New York University. He graduated in 2011 with a Master of the Arts in Journalism. Reinhard has been a lifelong rock climber and skier, so naturally his first clips began with Alpinist Magazine, writing about thrilling climbing and mountaineering ascents across the world in the Alpinist online newswire. He has worked primarily as a freelancer for a variety of news organizations and his photo, video, and written work has appeared in the BBC World News, ABC News, Frontline World, the Wall Street Journal, Fox News, Fox News Latino, the New York Post, the New York Daily News, Alpinist Magazine, Foodable Network, Santa Clara Magazine, and EPIC Magazine.
In 2011-2012 Reinhard left New York to take a position as a researcher and analyst on the ground in Afghanistan working for the U.S. government. He conducted studies on the complex ethnic, tribal, and political issues at play at the district level in several remote regions across the country. Following the end of his tour in 2012 Reinhard returned to California, where he continued to freelance both news and commercial video, writing, and photo work and worked as an adjunct lecturer at his alma mater Santa Clara University. In 2014 Reinhard decided to build upon his research experience and applied for and was accepted into the International and Development Economics Master of Science program at the University of San Francisco. Reinhard's research work focused on the intersection between conflict, climate and economics. His thesis work examines the impact of the outbreak of armed conflict on foreign direct investment. He graduated with honors in June of 2016.
